Independence
The fact or state of being independent. Freedom from outside control or support : the state of being independent
Implications
Here are a few things you can do to gain more independence in the work place:
1) Act like your own boss:
Don’t wait for someone to tell you what needs to be done. Look around and do it.
2) Innovate where you can:
Are there processes you can improve on, things you can make more efficient or a new perspective you can bring?
3) Speak up:
Don’t be afraid to share a differing opinion or one that enhances an existing idea. You’ll stand out and be valued for your enthusiasm to get involved.
4) Show up and get it done:
The more often you can prove your ability to complete tasks faster than expected with little direction, the more independence you’ll be granted without having to ask for it.
5) Stay positive:
Furthermore, negative feelings can arise when your sense of independence at work is being challenged. Stay focused on what you can control.
Above all, keep in mind that you have the power to create your own independence.
