About the Role

The Chief Manufacturing Officer role reports directly into the Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Apollo Tyres Ltd. The responsibilities include ownership of Apollo Tyres 7 global manufacturing plants, Group Head - International Manufacturing Services and Head - Corporate IE.

He/She would be responsible to lead the Apollo Tyres Limited (ATL)'s global manufacturing agenda, which includes strategy and planning, performance optimization, plant management, integrated manufacturing services (IMS), and corporate industrial engineering (IE). It is also responsible for defining the business case for new manufacturing technology or production investments, in order to ensure company's competitive advantage and sustainable growth.

Major Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning:

• Provide inputs into the overall development of ATL’s strategy by collaborating with functional heads, resulting in a comprehensive and aligned strategic direction
• Design manufacturing function's overall strategy, objectives, and short-term and long-term goals by aligning with ATL’s strategy
• Design manufacturing function's annual operating plan, strategic objectives, and goals by setting clear targets and timelines, and monitor adherence to the overall execution of the plan, to ensure consistent progress towards strategic goals
• Design manufacturing function's consolidated budget by evaluating financial needs and recommending budget allocation across the team, resulting in efficient and effective use of resources
• Manage CAPEX and OPEX budgets by planning expenditures, monitoring costs, and analyzing financial performance, resulting in optimized resource allocation and cost efficiency

Policies, Processes & Procedures:

• Create manufacturing function's policies, processes, and procedures by covering all areas of activity, resulting in high-quality and cost-effective outcomes
• Ensure continuous improvement of existing processes and innovation to identify new approaches by leading cross-functional teams, implementing lean methodologies, and fostering a culture of creativity and experimentation, to enhance efficiency and competitiveness
• Oversee escalated non-compliance cases by reviewing issues and recommending process improvements, resulting in reduced non-compliance and improved regulatory adherence

Manufacturing Operations & Maintenance:

• Provide technical leadership to all Apollo's production units by setting direction, providing guidance, and fostering collaboration, in order to ensure aligned and high-performing manufacturing operations
• Oversee manufacturing operations of the plants, track production goals against targets basis, and take corrective measures in case of deviations against targets or quality norms by implementing performance tracking systems, conducting regular reviews, and implementing improvement initiatives, resulting in optimized production efficiency
• Act as organization’s global technical authority on manufacturing process, setting standards, and ensuring manufacturing technology is at optimal level

Business Case Development:

• Provide input in business development by establishing business cases for investment in new manufacturing technology or infrastructure, conducting feasibility studies, and presenting recommendations to senior management, to ensure informed decision-making and strategic alignment
• Forge and maintain strategic partnerships with key clients, suppliers, and industry stakeholders to foster long-term relationships and capitalize on mutual business opportunities
• Oversee business development metrics to measure the effectiveness of strategies and initiatives, making data-driven decisions to optimize performance and achieve targets

Industrial Engineering & Integrated Manufacturing Services (IMS):

• Provide expertise and engineering services to global industrial engineering activities by overseeing analytics and reports, reviewing production methods, equipment layout, and material utilization, ensuring optimized operational efficiency
• Lead integrated manufacturing services by coordinating with cross-functional teams, streamlining processes, and leveraging technology to enhance production capabilities and efficiency
• Align IMS initiatives with company objectives by ensuring integrated services support overall business goals, resulting in cohesive and effective manufacturing operations

Compliance and Safety:

• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards by staying updated on regulations, conducting regular assessments, and implementing necessary changes, resulting in adherence to legal standards and mitigated risks
• Develop and implement safety protocols, establish clear safety procedures and guidelines in workplace safety, minimizing workplace hazards, and promoting employee well-being
• Lead emergency response plan, develop contingency plans, and conduct drills in emergency preparedness, ensuring a timely and effective response to emergencies and minimizing disruptions
• Oversee environmental compliance, monitor emissions and waste disposal practices in environmental regulations, meeting environmental standards and reducing environmental impact

People Management:

• Promote the organization's culture within the team by embedding desired behaviors through communication and training to ensure alignment with company values
• Instill a culture of continuous development and performance by implementing professional development programs, setting clear performance expectations, and providing regular feedback to enhance team effectiveness

Requirements

The incumbent should have a proven track record in

* Determining optimal production capacity, processes, and technology investments. Streamlining production processes, reduce waste, and implement cost-saving initiatives
* Recommending investment in state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies such as automation, robotics, and IoT to improve efficiency, quality, and competitiveness. Recommend strategic partnerships and alliances with suppliers, technology providers, or industry peers to leverage complementary capabilities, access new markets, or drive innovation.
* Balancing the benefits of automation with the need for skilled human resources and managing workforce transformation
* Managing disruptions such as raw material shortages, transportation issues, or geopolitical events
* Ensuring continuous innovation, cost optimization, and maintaining high product quality standards

The incumbent should have 25+ years of experience in plant operations function in manufacturing industry. He/She would have had at least several years as head of manufacturing/ operations function.

Masters in Operations, Business Administration or related filed. Additional certifications in manufacturing management or operations are often preferred
